Crossword Genius

The girl has no rope? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lasso

'rope?' is the definition.
(lassoing is a kind of roping)

'the girl has no' is the wordplay.
'the girl' becomes 'lass' (lass is a kind of girl**).
'has' says to put letters next to each other.
'no' becomes 'o' (resembles 0 - 'no' can mean 'zero').
'lass'+'o'='LASSO'

(Other definitions for lasso that I've seen before include "Rope used for catching cattle" , "Cowboy's noosed rope" , "Rope with noose for catching animals" , "One may be caught by this" , "Nosed rope" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
