Crossword Genius

The gooseberry and peach concoction neither sent back (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chaperon

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the gooseberry' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'peach concoction neither sent back' is the wordplay.
'concoction' indicates anagramming the letters.
'neither' becomes 'nor' (I've seen this before).
'sent back' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'nor' back-to-front is 'ron'.
'peach' anagrammed gives 'chape'.
'chape'+'ron'='CHAPERON'

'and' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for chaperon that I've seen before include "Woman supervising girl" , "Girl minder from Cape Horn" , "One accompanies and looks after another person or group" , "Duenna; look after" , "One who accompanies and supervises" .)
