'trees' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both plants as well as being plural nouns.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'the kind in swanky surroundings has nothing to ask' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'kind' could be 'ilk' (ilk can mean a type or kind) and 'ilk' is found in the answer.
'nothing' could be 'o' (looks like zero - 0) and 'o' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'ask' is 'aks' which is within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'about' is the link.
