Crossword Genius

The right edition to be read, being so colourful? (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

red

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'colourful?' is the definition.
('red' can be similar in meaning to 'colourful')

'the right edition to be read being' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'right' could be 'r' (common abbreviation) and 'r' is found within the answer.
'edition' could be 'ed' and 'ed' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'so' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for red that I've seen before include "- - poker: Kniphofia" , "14 -- breed of 4" , "Florid" , "Carmine" , "Colour for danger" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
