The Spanish man comes first in church (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chapel

'church' is the definition.
(I know that chapel is a type of church)

'the spanish man comes first' is the wordplay.
'the spanish' becomes 'el' ('the' in Spanish).
'man' becomes 'chap' (I've seen this in other clues).
'comes first' says to put letters next to each other.
'el' put after 'chap' is 'CHAPEL'.

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for chapel that I've seen before include "Part of church with its own altar" , "Perhaps part of cathedral" , "Good place" , "religious building" , "Place of worship set apart in church or cathedral" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
