The way down (5)
I believe the answer is:
south
'the way' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both locations as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'down' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'down' could be 'out' (similar in meaning) and 'out' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'sh' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for south that I've seen before include "Down on a map" , "Antarctica" , "1949 musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, made into a film in 1958" , "Card player" , "Cardinal point" .)
