I believe the answer is:

trapeze

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the work' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I don't see?

'these artists is above our heads' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'artists' could be 'ra' (Royal Academy of the Arts) and 'ra' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for trapeze that I've seen before include "Swinging crossbar" , "Acrobatic equipment" , "Where swingers swing" , "Seat on end of ropes" , "Aerobatic device" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
