Crossword Genius

They may look right to superiors (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

eyes

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'superiors' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.

'they may look right' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'right' could be 'yes' (right can mean yes or okay) and 'yes' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for eyes that I've seen before include "Narrowly watches" , "Organs of vision" , "They're said to be the mirrors of the soul" , "Poetically, they're the windows of the soul" , "Visual organs" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
