Crossword Genius

They take money sacks from the army (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cashiers

'sacks from the army' is the definition.
'cashiers' can be an answer for 'sacks' (I've seen this before). I am not sure about the 'from the army' bit.

'they take money' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'take' could be 'r' (abbreviation for 'recipe', Latin for 'take') and 'r' is present in the answer.
'money' could be 'cash' (cash is a type of money) and 'cash' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for cashiers that I've seen before include "They handle money" , "They deal with money" , "sacks" , "Dismisses from army in disgrace, like bank clerks" .)
