Though determined, be beaten back in a true rout (8)
I believe the answer is:
resolute
'though determined' is the definition.
'resolute' can be an answer for 'determined' (similar in meaning). I am not sure about the 'though' bit.
'beaten back in a true rout' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'true' could be 'so' (similar in meaning) and 'so' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'be' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for resolute that I've seen before include "without flinching" , "Admirably purposeful" , "Showing great determination, fully committed" , "Firm-minded" , "Determined, unwavering" .)
