Throw out newspaper briefly picked up (4)
I believe the answer is:
emit
'throw out' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'newspaper briefly picked up' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'newspaper' could be 'i' (the i is a British newspaper) and 'i' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'emt' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for emit that I've seen before include "Conductor; telegram (US)" , "Send forth" , "Come out!" , "Let out" , "Throw out" .)
