Time and a quarter (6)
I believe this is a double definition.
'time' is the first definition.
(a season is a period of time)
'a quarter' is the second definition.
(I have seen 'Quarter of year ' mean 'season' so perhaps 'quarter' could also mean 'season')
'and' is the link.
(Other definitions for season that I've seen before include "Add salt, pepper, spice etc" , "Add condiments to for time of year" , "eg.Summer" , "Eg, summer" , "make things palatable" .)
But I've got no explanation for this one! Could you help me understand?
(Other definitions for summer that I've seen before include "One making the whole" , "Warmest season" , "` `Now is the winter of our discontent / Made glorious ... by this sum of York' ' (Richard III)" , "could be described as Indian" , "Would one count" .)
