Time of the week for fish and chips? (6)
I believe the answer is:
friday
'fish and chips?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.
'time of the week' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'time' could be 'day' (day is a kind of time) and 'day' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'fri' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for friday that I've seen before include "The 13th is considered unlucky" , "God is thanked for this" , "Its child is loving and giving" , "faithful companion" , "It's payday for some" .)
