Time to abandon HGV and dismiss carrier (8)
I believe the answer is:
rucksack
'carrier' is the definition.
(something which carries things)
'time to abandon hgv and dismiss' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'dismiss' could be 'sack' (synonyms) and 'sack' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ruck' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for rucksack that I've seen before include "Walker's pack" , "Bergen?" , "Hiker often carries one on back" , "Trekker's luggage" , "Hiker's bag" .)
