Time to go and play with knob? (7)
I believe the answer is:
twiddle
'knob?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.
'time to go and play' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'time' could be 't' (abbreviation) and 't' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'widdle' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'with' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for twiddle that I've seen before include "Twist (thumbs) round and round" , "Play with and twist around" , "Twirl and fiddle" , "Adjust" , "Play nervously (with something)" .)
