Crossword Genius

Tip of tape measure going round collar (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

seize

'collar' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'tip of tape measure going round' is the wordplay.
'tip of' says to take the final letters.
'measure' becomes 'size' (size is a kind of measure).
'going round' is an insertion indicator (some letters go around others).
The final letter of 'tape' is 'e'.
'e' placed inside 'size' is 'SEIZE'.

(Other definitions for seize that I've seen before include "Snatch" , "Take possession" , "Capture" , "Become jammed" , "Take forcibly" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
