Crossword Genius

Titbit from a tin, you do the same with (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

canape

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'titbit' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'a tin you do the same with' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'a' could be 'an' and 'an' is found in the answer.
'do' could be 'ape' (both can mean to impersonate) and 'ape' is found in the answer.
A single letter 'c' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'from' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for canape that I've seen before include "Small appetizer" , "Savoury party fare" , "Piece of finger-food" , "Savoury snack" , "Party nibble" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
