Crossword Genius

Toboggan acquires new sudden movement (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lunge

'sudden movement' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'toboggan acquires new' is the wordplay.
'toboggan' becomes 'luge' (synonyms).
'acquires' indicates putting letters inside.
'new' becomes 'n' (common abbreviation eg NT for New Testament).
'luge' placed around 'n' is 'LUNGE'.

(Other definitions for lunge that I've seen before include "Sudden forward move" , "Sudden thrust in fencing" , "Stab" , "dive" , "Trust forward as with sword" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
