Crossword Genius

Tool gets right inside cloth (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

trowel

'tool' is the definition.
(I know that trowel is a type of hand tool)

'right inside cloth' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'right' could be 'r' (common abbreviation) and 'r' is found in the answer.
'cloth' could be 'towel' (towel is a kind of cloth) and 'towel' is present in the remaining letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'gets' is the link.

(Other definitions for trowel that I've seen before include "Garden implement" , "Small garden tool for handling plants" , "Something to help gardener" , "This makes plaster spread" , "Small tool for scooping or spreading" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
