Tragic hero cries out, 'To hell with love!' (7)
I believe the answer is:
othello
'tragic hero' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'out to hell with love' is the wordplay.
'out' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'love' becomes 'o' (love means zero in tennis).
'to' enclosing 'hell' is 'thello'.
'thello' put after 'o' is 'OTHELLO'.
'cries' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for othello that I've seen before include "game with counters" , "jealous husband" , "Old Black Ram!" , "Eponymous hero" , "Shakespeare play set in Venice/Cyprus" .)
