I believe the answer is:

waterski

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'trail boat weaving' is the definition.
I don't know anything about this answer so I cannot tell whether it can be defined by this definition.

'right in its wake?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'right' could be 'water' (water right is a kind of right) and 'water' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ski' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for waterski that I've seen before include "Take part in a sport" , "Engage in sport" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
