Crossword Genius

Tranquil fellow in Ulster surgery (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

restful

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tranquil' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'fellow in ulster surgery' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'fellow' could be 'f' (abbreviation - of a society etc.) and 'f' is found in the answer.
an anagram of 'ulster' is 'restul' which is present in the left over letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for restful that I've seen before include "Still - calming" , "Sedative" , "Quiet, soothing" , "Calm" , "Soothing is required" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
