Crossword Genius

Travel Lodge's opening in sweet marsh to the west (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

globetrot

'travel' is the definition.
(globetroting is a kind of travelling)

'lodge's opening in sweet marsh to the west' is the wordplay.
'opening' suggests taking the first letters.
'in' is an insertion indicator.
'sweet' becomes 'torte' (I've seen this before).
'marsh' becomes 'bog' (a bog is a marshy area).
'to the west' says the letters should be written backwards (letters written right to left or 'east to west').
The initial letter of 'lodges' is 'l'.
'torte'+'bog'='tortebog'
'l' inserted inside 'tortebog' is 'tortebolg'.
'tortebolg' written backwards gives 'GLOBETROT'.

(Other definitions for globetrot that I've seen before include "travel extensively" , "travel widely" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
