Traveller's car crashed into second car (5,4)
I believe the answer is:
marco polo
'traveller's' is the definition.
(13th-century explorer)
'car crashed into second car' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'car' is 'arc' which is located in the answer.
'second' could be 'mo' (both are short periods of time) and 'mo' is located in the remaining letters.
The remaining letters 'polo' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for marco polo that I've seen before include "Old travelling salesman" , "Venetian merchant, who travelled to China" , "sheep" , "Great Venetian explorer of China and Asia in 14th century" , "Venetian explorer of China in 13th/14th centuries" .)
