Crossword Genius

Travellers here left in boat surrounded by affectations of superiority (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

airports

'travellers here' is the definition.
(place where people travel)

'left in boat surrounded by affectations of superiority' is the wordplay.
'left in boat' becomes 'port' (nautical term for 'left').
'surrounded by' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'affectations of superiority' becomes 'airs' (as in 'putting on airs').
'port' inserted within 'airs' is 'AIRPORTS'.

(Other definitions for airports that I've seen before include "Is parrot about to fly from these?" , "facilities for travellers" , "JFK, Heathrow" , "Charles de Gaulle, JFK etc" , "Pearson and O'Hare, say" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
