Try from Bath leaving sides to draw (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

attempt

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'try from bath' is the definition.
'attempt' can be an answer for 'try' (synonyms). I am not sure about the 'from bath' bit.

'sides to draw' is the wordplay.
'sides' becomes 'at' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'to draw' becomes 'tempt' (I've seen this in other clues).
'at'+'tempt'='ATTEMPT'

'leaving' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for attempt that I've seen before include "bash" , "Try to climb (a peak)" , "Embark on, try" , "Endeavor, try" , "bid to kill someone" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times and The Sunday Times.
