Crossword Genius

Try gets one point and produces sulks (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

testiness

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'try' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'one point and produces sulks' is the wordplay.
'one point' becomes 'ness' (ness can mean a geographical point).
'and' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'produces sulks' becomes 'testi' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'ness' put after 'testi' is 'TESTINESS'.

'gets' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for testiness that I've seen before include "Irascibility" , "Irritability" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
