Try pair of notes, cheer up (7)

I believe the answer is:
hearten
'cheer up' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'try pair of notes' is the wordplay.
'try' becomes 'hear' (as in to try someone in court or hear their case).
'pair of notes' becomes 'ten' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'hear'+'ten'='HEARTEN'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hearten that I've seen before include "Encourage in Teheran" , "Inspire anew" , "Be encouraged" , "giving cheer" , "given cheer" .)
