Turns aside; seeing weaknesses across line (8)
I believe the answer is:
deflects
'turns aside' is the definition.
('deflect' can be a synonym of 'turn aside')
'weaknesses across line' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'line' could be 'l' and 'l' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'defects' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'seeing' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for deflects that I've seen before include "Turns from a straight course" , "Parries, turns aside" .)
