Two names for an animal (6)
I believe the answer is:
jackal
'animal' is the definition.
(I have seen 'Doglike animal ' mean 'jackal' so perhaps 'animal' could also mean 'jackal')
I don't understand how the remainder of the clue works.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for jackal that I've seen before include "Carrion-eating mammal" , "Menial worker" , "Wild flesh-eating dog of Africa" , "A predatory carnivorous dog-like animal" , "African wild dog" .)
