Two sorts of European closely related (7)
I believe the answer is:
germane
'closely related' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'two sorts of european' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'european' could be 'german' (Germany is in Europe) and 'german' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for germane that I've seen before include "Apposite" , "Material" , "closely related" , "Relevant (to subject)" , "Relevant, to the point" .)
