Type of bread in grill with very bare metal (12)
I believe the answer is:
pumpernickel
'type of bread' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'with very bare metal' is the wordplay.
'with' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'very bare' becomes 'pumper' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'metal' becomes 'nickel' (nickel is a kind of metal).
'pumper' put next to 'nickel' is 'PUMPERNICKEL'.
'in grill' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for pumpernickel that I've seen before include "Coarse ryebread" , "German coarse rye bread" , "Slightly sour German black bread" , "Coarse dark rye bread" , "German ryebread" .)
