Crossword Genius

Typical example of no-good swine in English book (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

epitome

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'typical example' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'english book' is the wordplay.
'english' becomes 'epi' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'book' becomes 'tome' (a tome is a book).
'epi'+'tome'='EPITOME'

'of no-good swine in' is the link.
This may not be right. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for epitome that I've seen before include "Personification" , "Exemplar - embodiment" , "Typical example, prototype" , "Something embodying perfectly a stated quality or idea" , "Digest" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
