Understanding charge against case (7)
I believe the answer is:
rapport
'understanding' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'charge against case' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'charge' could be 'rap' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'rap' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'port' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for rapport that I've seen before include "Mutual sympathy" , "Instinctive understanding between people" , "Feeling of mutual understanding" , "Close and harmonious relationship" , "Harmonious relationship between two people" .)
