Crossword Genius

University dons prepare for pressure (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

duress

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'for pressure' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'university dons prepare' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'university' could be 'u' (abbreviation for university) and 'u' is located in the answer.
'prepare' could be 'dress' (dressing is a kind of preparing) and 'dress' is present in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for duress that I've seen before include "Use of force or threats to get something" , "Coercion, pressure" , "Coercion, compulsion" , "Pressure (involving threats)" , "Constraint, Compulsion" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sunday Times.
