University newbie is more cheeky (7)
I believe the answer is:
fresher
'university' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how they can define each other.
'newbie is more cheeky' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'cheeky' could be 'fresh' (I've seen this before) and 'fresh' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'er' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fresher that I've seen before include "First-year undergraduate" , "First-year university student" , "New student - more impudent" , "new boy at college" , "More disrespectful" .)
