Crossword Genius

Unusual like men being benevolent people (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

oddfellows

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'benevolent people' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I can't judge whether this works.

'unusual like men' is the wordplay.
'unusual' becomes 'odd' (similar in meaning).
'like men' becomes 'fellows' (fellow is a kind of man. I am not sure about the 'like' bit.).
'odd'+'fellows'='ODDFELLOWS'

'being' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for oddfellows that I've seen is " Members of a particular fraternity".)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
