Up front, the appearance can be deceptive (6)
I believe the answer is:
facade
'up front' is the definition.
'facade' can be an answer for 'front' (I've seen this before). I am unsure of the 'up' bit.
I don't understand how the rest of the clue works.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for facade that I've seen before include "ballet" , "Frontage or veneer" , "Building frontage, or sort of pretence" , "False front" , "(False) outward appearance" .)
