Crossword Genius

Use iron around four and finish an hour later? (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

five

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'use iron' is the definition.
'five' can be an answer for 'iron' (five iron is a kind of iron). I'm not sure about the 'use' bit.

'four and finish an hour later?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'four' could be 'iv' (Roman numerals) and 'iv' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'around' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for five that I've seen before include "Fourth part of score" , "Quintet" , "Cube root of 125" , "End of the working day?" , "famous group" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
