Crossword Genius

Variety of pear, we gather, on the farm (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

reap

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'gather on the farm' is the definition.
'reap' can be an answer for 'gather' (I've seen this in another clue). I am unsure of the 'on the farm' bit.

'variety of pear we' is the wordplay.
'pear' anagrams to 'REAP'.
But, I am not clear how this is indicated.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for reap that I've seen before include "Glean or cut as harvest" , "Cut the corn" , "Save harvest, glean" , "'As you sow, so shall you . . . .'" , "Get -- derive" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
