Vegetables from abroad? (6)
I believe the answer is:
swedes
'vegetables' is the definition.
(swede is a kind of vegetable)
'from abroad?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'from abroad?' could be 'des' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'des' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'swe' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for swedes that I've seen before include "Root vegetables" , "Turnips from Scandinavia?" , "Europeans and turnips" , "Turnips for Scandinavians" .)
