Victor or William perhaps (9)
I believe the answer is:
conqueror
'victor' is the definition.
(I know that conqueror is a type of victor)
'or william perhaps' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'or' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'conquer' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for conqueror that I've seen before include "Victor, winner" , "Military victor" , "William of Normandy" , "humbler?" , "For one, William" .)
