Violent dispute at narrow junction's beginning to get sorted (6,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

trojan war

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'violent dispute' is the definition.
'trojan war' can be an answer for 'dispute' (I have seen 'dispute of old' mean 'trojan war' so perhaps 'dispute' could also mean 'trojan war'). I am not certain of the 'violent' bit.

I don't understand how the rest of the clue works.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for trojan war that I've seen before include "Conflict recorded by Homer" , "dispute of old" , "protracted conflict" , "Long battle" , "Ancient conflict" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
