Crossword Genius

Vital force from China opposed to drink (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chianti

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'to drink' is the definition.
(Chianti is an example)

'vital force from china opposed' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'china' is 'chian' which is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ti' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for chianti that I've seen before include "I can hit for popular Italian wine" , "Wine produced in Tuscany" , "Dry red Italian wine" , "I can hit (anag) - alcoholic drink" , "Tuscan red wine" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
