Crossword Genius

Vulgar group seen around that guy in newspaper (10)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

broadsheet

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'newspaper' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'vulgar group seen around that guy' is the wordplay.
'vulgar' becomes 'broad' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'group' becomes 'set' (both can mean a collection).
'seen around' indicates putting letters inside.
'that guy' becomes 'he'.
'set' going around 'he' is 'sheet'.
'broad'+'sheet'='BROADSHEET'

'in' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for broadsheet that I've seen before include "[OPPOSITE OF] Tabloid" , "Large-format newspaper" , "'Serious' newspaper" , "put to bed?" , "Something big that gets blanket coverage" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
