Crossword Genius

Went up on the tail of Chicago Bulls here (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

rodeo

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'bulls here' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how they can define each other.

'went up on the tail of chicago' is the wordplay.
'went up' becomes 'rode' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'on' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'the tail of' indicates one should take the final letters.
The last letter of 'chicago' is 'o'.
'rode'+'o'='RODEO'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for rodeo that I've seen before include "stock venue?" , "At which cowboys show their skills" , "Cowboys' riding contest" , "One should be up for this event" , "Cowboy show" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
