What indicates senior officer took off immediately with bombs? (9,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

scrambled eggs

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'bombs?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'what indicates senior officer took off immediately' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'took' could be 'led' ('lead' can be a synonym of 'take') and 'led' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'with' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for scrambled eggs that I've seen before include "Dish (on toast?)" , "Dish often served at breakfast" , "Cooked dish" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
