What Scot might exclaim about earthy colour (5)

I believe the answer is:
ochre
'earthy colour' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'what scot might exclaim about' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'about' could be 're' ('re' means regarding or about) and 're' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'och' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for ochre that I've seen before include "Yellow-orange hue" , "Yellow/brown pigment" , "A shade" , "Yellow-red mineral from iron oxide used as pigment" , "Pigment made from clay and iron oxide" .)
