Where bandeau may be placed for supporter of Cromwell (9)
I believe the answer is:
roundhead
'supporter of cromwell' is the definition.
'roundhead' can be an answer for 'supporter' (Roundhead is an example). I am unsure of the 'of cromwell' bit.
'where bandeau may be placed' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'be' could be 'head' (heading is a kind of being) and 'head' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'round' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for roundhead that I've seen before include "Old soldier" , "Cavalier's foe" , "An enemy of Charles" , "Supporter of Parliament during the English Civil Wars" , "Parliamentarian (hist.)" .)
