Crossword Genius

Where, in Turkey, an artist takes Jack up a mountain (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ararat

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a mountain' is the definition.
(Turkish mountain)

'where in turkey an artist takes jack up' is the wordplay.
'where in turkey an' becomes 'a' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'artist' becomes 'RA' (Royal Academician, member of Royal Academy of Arts).
'takes' says to put letters next to each other.
'jack' becomes 'tar' (both are informal terms for sailor).
'up' says the letters should be written backwards (in down clue: letters go upwards).
'tar' backwards is 'rat'.
'a'+'ra'+'rat'='ARARAT'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ararat that I've seen before include "Famous dry spot" , "Mount on which Noah's Ark is said to have landed" , "original dry dock" , "Turkish Mount on which Noah's Ark is said to lie" , "Noah's Ark is reputed to lie on this Mount" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
